AFRO PEN KID

Afro Pen Kid is a Cinematographer, Filmmaker and Editor whose videos I love as they're so detailed but not over- baring. I resarched quite a few videos on how to film in a club as I had no idea. I found that his videos covered everything I needed to know including examples of what he is teaching.

From viewing this video I learnt so many things that are needed to be considered when shooting in a club environment, for instance:

  1. Making sure everyone is aware that you are filming and being aware of your environment- I will visit the location earlier on so I can get a feel for my surroundings and know where the decks are placed and where to go to get a variation of shots.

  2. Stick to three simple angles- Right behind the DJ/ looking over their shoulder to see the crowd on the drop of the music, this could create a sillouette. Secondly, right in front of the DJ which means detail of him using the equipment and just having fun. Lastly, the perspective of the crowd, my goal is to make viewers want to come to the next event therefore I have to shoot people having fun.

  3. Know what equipment to use- A DSLR and LED light and be cautious with this as you don't want anything to be stolen!

  4. Film the drops- this is when the crowd will be having most fun which is the image we want to depict.

  5. Shoot slow- motion- shot at 120.

  6. DON'T INCLUDE- Topless men
    Really drunk people
People doing drugs or anything else illegal
    People getting it on
    People fighting
    People being removed
    Doorstaff
Queues (toilets / bars / smoking area/ bottleknecking)
    Empty rooms
