The Pioneers of Dance: Misty Copeland

This is my most recent layout featuring one of the biggest names in American Ballet, Misty Copeland. I used Photoshop to create a PNG file of her en pointe in my favourite shoot of her and placed this in InDesign after creating my page's background. It features two pages, one of which highlight's Misty talent. I also thought the harsh black which contrasts the soft nude could portray that of a ballerina- they look soft and fragile from the outside but are strong, tough women.

Page layout it my favorite subject and one I wish to pursue as a career. Some are older layouts and some more recent to show my development and passion for this aspect of the media. Now I have more knowledge of InDesign, I have taken much more care to consider hypehnation, orphans and widows. Please click here to view a website I designed for a 'Life After College' assignment.

Celebrity gossip and real- life is the genre of magazine I aspire to work in. So, to get a feel of Heat magazine, I recreated a recent layout on Cheryl's pregnancy. I used Photoshop to create the vector images and imported them into InDesign. One thing I learnt from this was changing my display performance to high quality improved the layout's appearance so much, an aspect I can now continue to put into practice.

Golden Globes 2017: Best Looks

I created these layouts to test how I work with layers and arrangements. It was really difficult working with so many photos (which were all edited on Photoshop) but I made it work. I also used an 'eyebrow' feature at the top of the page to draw m audience's attention. I am still working on the lower layout and also a hair style layout which will be adjacent to the Lily Collins article.

Boxer Braids

In 2016, braids were the talk of the town with Kim Kardashian bringing Boxer Braids back into the spotlight. As a result, I created a corresponding layout with more of a hipster vibe. I had fun creating image texts in Photoshop and importing them into InDesign to create a cool, laidback vibe. Impact was the perfect font for this as it's bold, in your face and to the point- kind of like the people that wear this hairstyle. I've used a lot of whitespace to keep the layout modern and simple, and to compliment the model's light hair because less is sometimes more.

My second design features the same gradient border, Impact title and white background, however I've contrast this with more images displaying various styles of braids with neon coloured strokes. I thought this was fun, youthful and a way to catch my reader's attention.

NIKKIE TUTORIALS: #ThePowerOfMakeup

#ThePowerOfMakeup video went viral in 2016, which brought Dutch MUA Nikkie De Jager into the spotlight. I used a quote as my body text on the open page as I feel what she says is a true statement. To give readers a hint of the story, I placed her selfie from the video into InDesign, however, before that I cropped around her and spray painted on the edges of the image to create a soft blur so her face would blend into the black background.

Shoreditch Street Art Tours: The Review

This is my year one Media final piece. I am a huge fan of street art, love page layout and am fond of writing. Therefore, I put all three passions together to create a magazine spread. For body text, I usually use articles from the web, so it was cool to see a layout and article made entirely by me.

Artist fact files for artists featured in the article. I had fun using InDesign to create quirky ways to layout my text, eg warping it around the 'T' to mirror the 'T' on the left page. Street art is modern and doesn't follow rules, which allowed me to create layouts that aren't so much traditional using grungy typography which isn't exactly grammatically correct. Again, I used Photoshop to create the image letters and text 'stick men' couple, mirroring the artist's image I took on the Shoreditch art tour.

Fairy Tail Colouring Book

To vary my layout themes, I attempted creating colouring pages for children. This is a sample I created on Photoshop which helped develop my skills working with layers, the eraser and also paint tools. Here, I was able to create 3 pages from one style background just by adapting the colour scheme and moving the flowers around. I also found that adding a corresponding drop shadow to the themed typology made for a fun, age appropriate finish. To improve this, I would definitely have to hyphenate the text and ensure there are no orphans and widows.

Clown Contour

This was my first ever layout created on InDesign. I created two alternative designs which taught me to use drop caps, drop shadows, various shaped images and that less is more when it comes to body text.

My second design focuses on warping text around a shape using the pen tool and also playing with object style options so the layout doesn't look so 2D.

Banksy: The Fact File

This is another Banksy layout, this time focusing one image to create a double page spread. As the images didn't stretch enough in InDesign, I had to copy and paste certain sections on Photoshop and re- place, using stroke's and drop- shadows to re-create the images. This layout was a fun way to source themed typefaces to create an urban vibe. Since both phtoos are quite dark and dingy, I've used contrasting stokes to ensure Banksy's pieces stood out, looking kind- of 3D.

Creative CV

This was a first year project in which I designed a creative CV. Before this, I thought all CV's had to be boring and black and white, however this taught me that in the media you are allowed to be different!

Apprenticeship Week Poster

This is one of the first ever posters I deigned which was to be put around college to promote various apprenticeships. It is made up of vector based images and I used Illustrator to create a vector from a raster.
